Recyclinghöfe: Berliner Stadtreinigung (BSR)

Fourteen municipal yards taking three cubic metres of bulky waste free per vehicle, plus electricals, textiles, paper, glass and batteries with no volume limit at all.

Right for you if

  • You have a car, a load under three cubic metres, and no wish to wait.
  • It has to cost nothing.
  • You can get it there under your own steam.
  • You want to turn up without booking.

Look elsewhere if

  • You have no way of getting it there.
  • It is business waste.
  • It is more than a household quantity.
  • It is construction or demolition waste.

Something wrong here?

Why use it

The free workhorse, with one rule that turns people away at the gate: there is no partial unloading. BSR's own worked example has somebody arrive with four cubic metres plus a fridge, and the fridge is accepted while the entire bulky load is refused. The allowance is per vehicle rather than per person, so filling a friend's van does not double it, and BSR's own rule of thumb is that a full Multivan boot is roughly the whole three cubic metres. The other rule that matters is who may deliver: only the person whose waste it is, or private friends and relatives, which is why a paid clearance firm cannot use this route on your behalf.

Where your things go

A named destination is worth more than a stated intention, and both are worth more than silence. This is the row to read before you book: if your item's row is empty, ask them on the phone and tell us what they say.

Not documented yet. This operator has not published what happens to each kind of item, and we have not been able to establish it from anywhere else. That is the gap, stated rather than hidden. If you ask them, tell us what they say.

Does it actually work

The part no company website tells you. Some of this comes from our checks, some from readers who used the service, and where nobody has told us yet, it says so.
